Hi,
I am one of several volunteers whom assists with the care and development of the Raunds Pocket Park. It has come to light that the park, which is currently owned by the town council, wish to sell the land off to a major property development company.
The park might not currently be in its prime condition, but we, the volunteers are regularly doing our best to develop it. It is the only remaining natural wildlife site within the town, and will be lost, if the council are allowed to have their way.
Please, if you value the site, and wish to see it develop further as a natural wildlife site, rather than yet another crammed housing estate, help by contacting the town council, the East Northamptonshire council, and your MP, to prevent its loss.
There is an Annual General Meeting for the Pocket Park being held on Thursday 24th April 2008. Please attend to discuss and show your support.
Contact Information =================== Raunds Town Council: raundstowncouncil@fsmail.net East Northamptonshire Council: customerservices@east.northamptonshire.gov.uk Your local MP is Phil Hope: hopep@parliament.uk

Is this the bit of land on your right as you turn off London Road to Stanwick?

Yes, this is the former stone pit and landfill site on the corner or Stanwick Road and London Road.
I failed to say, that the meeting is to be held at Saxon Hall, Raunds at 7p.m.
One of the most irritating things about the councils attitude, is that they have conveniently misplaced the 25 year lease, which was issued in 1997. So, the lease as a Pocket Park should still stand for until the year 2022. |

Doesn't the Land Registry hold details of that?

If a lease was agreed by the town council, the decision would also appear in their minutes, which should be made available to the public. A few awkward questions before the meeting, to either the town clerk or the town councillor of your choice, should resolve this simply.

I agree with what Eric has said - it would have been minuted. I would have thought though, that the Management Group should also have a copy of the Lease?
I don't know if it will help, but I've found the original Change of Use application. http://www.eastnorthantsonline.co.uk/planning/searchresults.asp?Reference=97/00391/FUL
It may be worth having a look at this. It doesn't mention any Lease, of course, but it does give the names of individuals involved with the application, including the person representing the Pocket Park Management Group, and it also gives dates of the application which may help to narrow down the search in the Town Council's Minutes. I suppose it's also possible that the copy of any Lease may have been filed away with the Change of Use Application documents?

Well done for finding the information about the change of use application, thats useful. We know that the council will have to process another application for its change of use as residential land.
Some individuals of the original Management Group still help out at the Park, but don't have copies of the lease paperwork.
I would imagine that any meeting minutes from 1997 would have been destroyed by now, and if they haven't, I'm not sure where I could find out where they could be. |

Contact Raunds town council office - minutes from 1997 should still be retained there. If, for some reason, they are not, they should tell you where they can be accessed.

When did Michelle Goring become Mayor? (Mare?) It's not that long ago since she was first elected onto the council - or maybe I have been away too long. But yes, I see what you mean. Everything has a monetary value these days. Nearly a decade of hard voluntary work sold down the river. How much? Thirty pieces of silver?
