Blatherwycke

Blatherwycke is located to the east of the A43, approximately 2½ miles south-east of King's Cliffe. The village consists of a single street which is carried across the upper part of Blatherwycke Lake by a causeway and bridge. The village was recorded in the Domesday Book as Blarewiche. From the 16th Century to the early 18th Century Blatherwycke was the seat of the Staffords. When in 1720 Susannah Stafford died, Henry O'Brien inherited the estate and had the house rebuilt to designs by Thomas Ripley. The house was demolished in 1948.
